We bought a home and my dad, a handy person, has stripped the staircase and sanded it. He complained about it the amount time it took to do so, which was a whole week. He complained about the little dents and tears time had brought on in. “They’re gonna really come out, once I stain it”. And it is true, once you stain, all of the little imperfections of the wood come out. He was frustrated, but to me it felt silly.
“Dad, no matter what”, I said ” it’s gonna look so much better, fresh and anew. You can’t be mad that an old staircase does not look new. It’s not meant to, but no matter what, it will be beautiful”….
Later that night, I came home after going to the movies and saw it half lit, naked, that old staircase of ours, and it was all white and smooth, full of potential. Waiting to get it’s top coat on, and get a new life.
Funny, how silly little things inspire you, such as a stripped staircase….I guess there are times of our lives when we feel just as old, stripped and naked, but life still goes on, all we need to do is get our top coat on see what comes next.
Good night world!
