Good Old Country…

You know, hopefully you’ve watched  Third Rock from the Sun and that one episode where one of main characters cries her eyes out while listening to Country songs finally concluding with the exclamation ” Country singers have such  hard lives!”. Well, don’t know  about the sad lives, but lately under the influence of Country Strong I’ve developed an appreciation for their lyrics. Country songs, when done well, are pretty poetic and quite deep in observations about life. It is kind of a neat observation for someone who I would describe as your not typical Country music listener, i.e. me.  And funny enough, it does not matter if the lyrics come from not so typical Country song writer, either.  Case and point, Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Who knew he would come up with such a deep Country song- Me and Tennessee. Sang by, well, his wife and Tim McGraw. Now it makes sense, doesn’t it? Anyhow, I’ve fallen in love with this song. It rings kind of deep. Here is the text followed by the video. Enjoy!

(Tim McGraw)

Baby, I think we both know
It’s gone wrong, wrong, wrong
And I know you don’t think we can carry it on
Baby, I think we both know
It’s gone bad, bad, bad
Think of all the good times we had

Driving to your house
‘Member when we first met
Dancing on a Friday night
Under the moonlight
Talking ’til the night was gone
In the back of my truck with the radio on

(Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow)

Then that old song comes on
Together we’re singing
Forever we’re singing
When that old song comes on
Together we’re singing
Forever we’re singing
That old country song
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

(Gwyneth Paltrow)

Baby, I think we both know
It’s alright, alright
But how could I forget what you did that night
Baby, you told me you loved me in Tennessee
Where we were gonna live
But now you’ve done a few things that I can’t forgive

Driving to her house
Tellin’ her you love her
Lying on a Friday night
Ring in your pocket
Lying to me all along
In the back of your truck with the radio on

(Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow)

Then that old song comes on
Together we’re singing
Forever we’re singing
I know we went wrong but we belong
Together we’re singing
Forever we’re singing
That old country song
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
